Cas_XP is at it again! This time he’s bringing a true beta version of Cyanogen Mod 7 to the Le Pan TC970. Almost all of the prior bugs (upside down display, no SD mounting or bluetooth, etc…) have been worked out in this release! There a few tiny bugs still left to iron out, but this is almost ready to be labeled a Release Candidate!

Instructions, Download & Change Log after the jump!

  • Audio Playback – Tweaked, Fully Functional
  • SD Mounting – Fully Functional
  • Bluetooth – Fully Functional
  • Display Up-Side Down – Fixed
  • Sensor (G-sensor, Compass, Light Sensor) – Working, but still buggy

  • Camera
  • GPS
  • Sensors – Still need tweaking, auto-rotation is funky but working

  1.  if you haven’t yet, unzip this file and place “griffin.ifw” on the root of your SD card. For people who do not know what this is, it is the first/top-most folder of the SD card
  2. , place this on your SD card (preferably the root, but any place will work).
  3. Power down your tablet (if it’s on)
  4. Boot to recovery by turning your tablet on and holding the volume down and power key at the same time for 10-15 seconds. Once you are in recovery, use the volume keys to scroll all the way down a few times until you see “back button enabled” appear on your screen. Then you can use the power button to select an option.
  5. Go to backup & restore > backup. This will create a NANDROID of your current system’s state, so when you are done trying out Gingerbread you can return to Froyo just as it was before (with all of your applications, settings, etc… in tact)! Please make sure you have at least 1GB of free space on your SD card to store the backup!
  6. Once the backup is complete, click the “wipe data/system restore” option to clear your data from the tablet. Also wipe your “cache” and “dalvik-cache” from the Advanced menu.
  7. Once you’ve wiped the slate clean, go back to the main menu of ClockWorkMod and choose the Update from option.
  8. Navigate to wherever you saved ClockWorkMod (hopefully you saved it on the root, in that case scroll down!) and use the power button to select it.
  9. Choose Yes to flash it and when it is done reboot your tablet.

  1. Reboot to ClockWorkMod.
  2. Wipe Data / Cache / Dalvik-Cache.
  3. Choose Update from
  4. Navigate to the CM7 Beta on your SD Card.
  5. Flash, Reboot & Enjoy!

    You guys rock!

For anyone having the “Can’t open /sdcard/…” issue during installation, be sure to rename the zip file to “”.

I am trying to decide between the TC 970 and Le Pan II. Would CM7 make the 970 worth getting over the newer model (esp. since it is cheaper)?

Honeycomb is definitely far more refined than Gingerbread, being specifically designed for tablets and all. But the choice is all yours! The Le Pan II doesn’t have root access yet, but we will get there.

Folks, come inside, in the forum we have discussion thread for the CM7 Beta release, install guide for new users, etc.

Ask questions and you will get answers.

    I think #8 should say:
Navigate to wherever you saved CM7 ROM (hopefully you saved it on the root, in that case scroll down!) and use the power button to select it.

    Other than that – thanks!

Are these files still available? I can’t seem to get them, it says the pages are not available.
